How Sensory Driven came about

At 9 months I found out my son had a stroke that left him with CP to his left side, OSA, epilepsy, and SPD. Today my son’s story is my inspiration.

One part of his life is being introduced to the world of sensory. There is what we call an ”introduction period” in our family when it comes to any new activity or any new toy. During this period my son can be very emotional. He ranges from sad to angry to scared all in one breath. This can be difficult when he deals with fine motor skills.

It's hard to watch your child get frustrated so I dove into research to find something that could help him feel more at ease while he tries to focus at the task at hand. I noticed how he loved hugs and how he craved deep touch pressure (hugs) when he was overwhelmed.

The idea for these unique blankets stems from countless hours of trying to find the right textures for my own son. I saw how reversible sequin got him to focus more, start using his left hand to flip and feel the texture of the sequin, use both hands to flip the sequins at the same time, use one hand to flip the sequins crossing midline and even use his pointer finger to try and move the sequins one by one. This was a huge moment for our family to witness our son doing this. He was laughing and having so much fun with the reversible sequins.

Then we found his love for weighted items such as toys, lap pads, and blankets. From there It only made sense to combine the sequins with a fun colored textured fabric with the added feel of weight.

At first, I started with just reversible sequins weighted lap pads and blankets. Over time I grew to have a wide range of different fabrics to create unique custom weighted blankets. I love what I do and I'm thankful I can help other families.
